Ericsson demonstrates early implementation of CDMA2000 1xEV-DV on its commercial CDMA2000 1X wireless infrastructure

STOCKHOLM -- In a demonstration today, Ericsson utilized its commercial CDMA2000 base station controller, packet core network, mobile switching center and components from the radio base station's Connectivity Packet Platform (CPP) to conduct a series of data calls in its CDMA2000 1xEV-DV lab in San Diego, California. The CDMA2000 1xEV-DV test environment allows Ericsson to demonstrate 1xEV-DV applications and further develop the 1xEV-DV functionality at an early stage to accelerate commercial availability.

Ericsson's state-of-the-art EV-DV lab enables fast time-to-market in commercializing it's end-to-end CDMA2000 1xEV-DV solution for revision D. In addition, Ericsson continues to actively participate in and drive standardization efforts in 3GPP2, with the goal of finalizing standardization of CDMA2000 revision D as soon as possible.

"Ericsson's true 3G solution for CDMA2000 1X is designed with 1xEV-DV in mind and can easily handle the increased capacity and performance that CDMA2000 1xEV-DV offers," said Ake Persson, president of Ericsson Mobile Systems CDMA. "Operators utilizing Ericsson's CDMA2000 1X solution today only need simple software and channel card upgrades when migrating to 1xEV-DV, making Ericsson's solution cost-effective and future-proof for the operators," Persson continued.

Ericsson's CDMA2000 offering also provides operators the flexibility to offer 1xEV-DO services with a smooth and cost-effective upgrade from its existing CDMA2000 1X solution.

CDMA2000 1xEV-DV is backward compatible with 1X and supports simultaneous voice and high-speed data to the same user. The ability to integrate voice and data on the same carrier further ensures operators protection of existing investment.
