ANDOVER, Mass. -- Enterasys Networks Inc. (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks(TM) company, today announced the appointment of Robert Fortna as vice president, Federal Sales. Reporting to Michael Rivers, executive vice president, Worldwide Sales and Service, Fortna will deliver the benefits of Enterasys' portfolio of U.S. government-certified Secure Networks solutions to government agencies and departments worldwide.

Fortna brings to Enterasys extensive federal sales management experience in the networking and communications industries. Most recently, he was vice president, Government Solutions for Avaya, Inc., in Washington, D.C. Previously, Fortna spent 10 years with Nortel Networks in positions including vice president of Federal Solutions, Enterprise Networks. Fortna began his career with IBM's federal sales group. He also serves as a director and executive committee member of the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) and is a director of the International Telephone Pioneers Association.

"Federal governments worldwide represent an important market for Enterasys and Bob Fortna is a key addition to our sales leadership team," said Michael Rivers. "Bob is well established in government sales with a long and successful record of selling networking solutions to the full range of federal government agencies and organizations. Like Jim Harold, our new vice president of Americas Partner Sales, Bob will be an asset to Enterasys as we deliver the products, services and solutions that enable our global customers to enjoy the benefits of Secure Networks. Nowhere is the need for network security more critical than in the United States. With Bob, we have the leader we need to succeed in this important market."

Unlike many networking companies that try to make their customers' networks more secure by bolting on security devices, Enterasys embeds security throughout the network fabric, enabling customers to respond quickly and effectively to combat threats to their networks and information assets. With Enterasys' unique software and full range of cost-effective network infrastructure solutions for Secure Networks, customers minimize exposure to internal and external threats through centralized control and enforcement of enterprise security policies. In fact, deploying Enterasys Secure Networks switching technology at the distribution layer of networks using competitors' equipment can make those heterogeneous networks more secure.
