Gerard Caccappolo, who helped found the first European IP backbone, heads back home
February 20, 2001
Ebone, a division of Global TeleSystems, Inc. (NYSE: GTS; EASDAQ: GTSG; Frankfurt: GTS), and Europe's original and most experienced broadband IP and optical networking company, today announced that Gerard Caccappolo has been named President, Ebone, North America. Caccappolo will drive Ebone's aggressive expansion of sales and business development activities across the continent and work to develop a profile and brand that are as powerful in North America as they are in Europe.
A 30-year veteran of the telecommunications industry in Europe and the United States, Caccappolo has been with the company for five years and has been instrumental in every stage of its development and success. Previously he worked in London and Brussels as President of Ebone, overseeing all Ebone activities, and prior to that, as President of GTS Carrier Services. Caccappolo was a key member of the management team that founded Hermes Europe Railtel BV, which was Europe's first cross-border fibre optic network and now forms the foundation of Ebone's network today. The move meets with his desire to return to the United States, where his family are located.
