SAN JOSE, Calif., January 6, 2004 – For the first time, users of mobile devices based on Macintosh OS X can enjoy seamless, secure, wireless computing, even across subnets, thanks to the new WirelessWall Client for Mac OS X from Cranite Systems, Inc.

Cranite, a leading provider of comprehensive security for wireless networks, is the first company of its kind to offer secure, wireless local area network (LAN) support for the Macintosh operating system, which enjoys wide usage in the government and healthcare sectors, as well as among enterprises. Cranite’s WirelessWall Client for Mac OS X extends the security and mobility benefits as of Cranite’s award-winning, FIPS 140-2 certified WirelessWall software to Macintosh users, including users of the Jaguar (v10.2) and Panther (v10.3) operating systems.

“The power and flexibility of mobile computing are tantalizing to government workers, who often are prevented from enjoying these benefits because of security concerns,” said Marc Johnson, chief, network operations, Capitol I.T. Solutions, Inc. “On top of that, Mac users have not previously had a comprehensive wireless LAN security solution available to them. Now, with Cranite’s WirelessWall software, the many scientists and other Mac enthusiasts working within government and commercial sectors have a solution that will untether them and enable increased productivity.”

The WirelessWall Client for Mac OS X, used with Cranite’s award-winning WirelessWall Policy Server and Access Controller, offers robust capabilities for managing and securing wireless LANs. As a software-based solution, WirelessWall gives customers the freedom to select the hardware platforms of their choice, potentially resulting in overall cost savings. Moreover, the zero-configuration, thin client is easily installed and managed without requiring expensive, complex third-party technologies.

“By introducing the first complete wireless LAN security solution for the Macintosh, we are opening a whole new world of mobile computing to dedicated Mac users,” said Greg McNulty, CEO, Cranite Systems, Inc. “Plus, WirelessWall’s bullet-proof, government-certified security technology is ideal for government and healthcare environments.”
