HICKORY, N.C. -- Corning Cable Systems, an industry-leading manufacturer of fiber optic and copper communications network infrastructure solutions, will highlight its Advanced Right-of-Way (AROW) products at SUPERCOMM 2002. The products are an integral part of Corning Cable Systems’ Evolant™ Solutions for Metropolitan Networks.Corning Cable Systems’ AROW products take advantage of less-traditional methods of installing fiber optic cable in cities, helping carriers connect quickly, cost-effectively and in a “city-friendly” manner. AROW installations are five to 10 times faster than traditional techniques and are less than half the cost.Corning Cable Systems’ MCS® Road Cable, with 12 to 144 fibers, is a robust single-tube cable designed for installation in harsh environments. MCS Road Cable is installed in a small groove in a road or sidewalk that is then safely sealed. The groove is several inches deep and less than a half inch wide and has the appearance of an expansion joint. MCS Drain and S.L.I.M.® cables use city sewers to get fiber to customers. MCS Drain Cable features a unique single tube cable design with special armor and protection for sewer installation. It is installed in sewer systems using Corning Cable Systems’ proprietary technology. S.L.I.M. Cable is a robust stranded loose tube cable specifically designed for installation in rain and wastewater sewers using Ca-Botics Fiber Systems’ STAR™ (Sewer Telecommunications Access by Robot) robotic technology. Its high fiber packing density reduces the cross section of an 8-inch sewer by less than 1 percent.Corning Cable Systems also offers an accompanying line of MCS Closures. The U-60 underground closure, suitable for up to 60 optical fibers, can be used in the MCS system as a watertight inline closure. It can be installed in roadways, sidewalks or soil. The U-144 underground closure, suitable for up to 144 optical fibers, is used as a watertight, inline or branching closure. It is particularly suitable for placement in sidewalks or soil. These AROW products will be featured in Corning Cable Systems’ booth(#22726) at SUPERCOMM 2002, June 4-6, in Atlanta, Ga. In a separate release:Corning Cable Systems, an industry-leading manufacturer of fiber optic and copper communications network infrastructure solutions, announces its Ultra High-Density Optical Splice Enclosure (OSE). Part of Corning Cable Systems’ Evolant™ Solutions for Evolving Networks, the Ultra High-Density OSE is designed to manage the transition between outside plant cable and fire-retardant indoor riser cables in fiber optic networks. The enclosure features 1,944 single fiber capacity with single fiber heat shrink fusion splicing and 3,888 fiber capacity with mass fusion ribbon splicing. This capacity is achieved with 36 single fiber fusion splices per tray or six mass fusion splices per tray. The unit can hold up to 54 splice trays, which are housed in parcels of six and are enclosed with a door for added security. The Ultra High-Density OSE will be featured in Corning’s booth (#22726) at SUPERCOMM 2002, June 4-6, in Atlanta, Ga.Corning Inc.For more information on Supercomm 2002, please visit: Supercomm Special
