Leases 4,068-km of fiber from Global One and KPNQwest to complete Tier 1 IP backbone

CompleTel Europe N.V. (Nasdaq : CLTL; ParisBourse: CTL), a facilities-based provider of switched local access telecommunications and broadband Internet services to business end-users and carriers in Western Europe, announced today the deployment of 4,068 additional kilometers of leased fiber optic network capacity to complete its European Tier One IP network. The network will connect its local metropolitan area networks nationally and internationally and provide broadband IP to its growing IDC and internet Web Hosting division iPcenta(TM).

This brings CompleTel's total fiber optic European Tier One IP network and local access metropolitan area networks to 7,378 kilometers. This will complete the International connections of CompleTel's networks in France, Germany and the UK, as well as linking together its existing metropolitan area networks in France and Germany.

A leasing contract with Global Crossing, gives CompleTel the use of a 2,620 kilometer network loop linking CompleTel's local access metropolitan area networks in Berlin, Essen, Munich, Nuremberg and its peering activities in Frankfurt. CompleTel is also leasing a 1,448 kilometer ring from KPNQwest to link Frankfurt, London and Paris.

CompleTel already uses 2,263 kilometers of leased fiber optic capacity for its European Tier One IP network in France, connecting local access metropolitan area networks in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Grenoble, Toulouse, and Nice. With these new network extensions with Global Crossing and KPNQwest, CompleTel's total leased IP network capacity equals 6,331 kilometers, additional to the 1047* kilometers of built fiber optic local access loops for metropolitan area networks.
