BERN, Switzerland -- Comfone, an experienced leader in roaming and hub service technology, continues to evolve its leadership in data roaming with the rapid market expansion of its GRX network. Comfone has virtualised its inter-operator IP network by using multiple MPLS providers connected at all three global GRX peering points – Amsterdam, Singapore and Ashburn, U.S.A. – and implemented Quality of Service (QoS) parameter mapping to all providers and peering points.

These developments pave the way for the next generation of IP interworking and interconnection, whereby services will be delivered over dedicated connections and MPLS backbones end-to-end. The significance of end-to-end connectivity for mobile network operators is the real ability to provide Quality of Service over the entire path of the traffic flow, which really does enable them to sell quality international mobile services. The list of services that can be bundled on Comfone’s dedicated inter-operator IP network is extensive and includes mobile data roaming (GRX) and Blackberry (RIM) traffic, IP-based voice interworking, roaming signalling traffic (i.e. SIGTRAN) and messaging interworking (SMS/MMS Hub). Comfone’s innovative inter-operator IP network will also support future-orientated services such as IMS services interworking and cloud-based services traffic.

Derek Moser, Comfone Senior GRX Product Manager, explained that: “By expanding our GRX service to include network PoPs at all GRX peering points, Comfone can guarantee optimal routing to reduce the distance and improve the speed between two mobile networks or CSPs (Communication Service Providers). This significantly increases the efficiency and quality of 3G/4G roaming and interworking connections for mobile handsets and devices.”
