SOFIA, Bulgaria -- The Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) announces that Mr. Bernard Moschéni will be appointed Chief Executive Officer of the company replacing Mr. Martin Staub, starting January 1, 2008. Mr. Staub will continue to serve on the Board of Directors of BTC.

“The company has made huge progress recently under the leadership of Martin. We aim to continue improving the operations for the benefits of the clients.” said Mr. Pierre Mellinger, Member of the Board of Directors of BTC. “We are grateful for the contribution of the BTC staff and would like to thank Martin for his hard work and commitment in growing and diversifying BTC’s operations. Martin will remain CEO until January 1, 2008. Afterwards, Martin Staub will stay on the Board of Directors of the company and will continue to be involved with BTC and support the company in a different capacity.” he added.

Before joining BTC, Bernard Moschéni was CEO of Mobistar, a listed Belgian telecoms operator. While at Mobistar, Mr. Moschéni successfully expanded the company’s market share and customer base. Prior to joining Mobistar in 2004, Mr. Moschéni had been CEO of Orange Romania since February 2000 – he had originally been CFO of this company, which he rebranded in the spring of 2002. With 4.5 million active subscribers on 1 October 2004, Orange Romania was the undisputed leader in mobile telephony in Romania. Bernard Moschéni has been active in the telecommunications industry on an international scale for more than 15 years, in France, Italy, Mexico and Romania.

Mr. Moschéni outlined the three priorities for the company in the months to come:

  • Continue to grow and expand vivatel’s operations and make vivatel the most attractive mobile operator for Bulgarian customers.

  • Expand the range of value services to Bulgarian businesses.
