OTTAWA -- Bridgewater Systems, a leading provider of policy management solutions for dynamic IP services, today announced a strategic agreement with VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the Internet and telecommunications networks.

Under this agreement, VeriSign has licensed Bridgewater Systems' authentication authorization and accounting (AAA) and mediation capabilities for use in VeriSign's Wireless Data Roaming Service (WDRS). WDRS promotes and enables data roaming for carriers looking to expand access to, and usage of, their next-generation offerings. With WDRS, carriers can solve a variety of data roaming problems faced by end users who want to access wireless WAN and LAN networks as they roam. This cost-effective, transaction-based service handles not only key interoperability complexities but also provides data record mediation and clearing and settlement services. WDRS helps service providers minimize capital expenditures while providing the essential components of a complete, robust service.

VeriSign's WDRS will help drive penetration and consumption of data services by mobile users just as roaming enabled rapid growth of wireless voice (cellular) services. Data roaming provides a win-win opportunity for service providers by extending access to data services as their subscribers roam. In addition, WDRS enables service providers to generate incremental roaming revenues as visiting subscribers from other networks access their data services while "in roaming." These services will act as a catalyst for incremental revenues across the wireless data ecosystem.

"Bridgewater Systems is a solid contributor to VeriSign's WDRS," said Vernon Irvin, executive vice president, VeriSign Communications Services. "We were impressed by Bridgewater Systems' market-leading presence with CDMA service providers and its reputation for quality. Working closely with Bridgewater Systems and our other technology providers, we can offer a network that handles a broad range of carriers' needs, and enables them to offer compelling new wireless data services to the marketplace."
