ITHACA, N.Y. -- BinOptics Corporation, an emerging leader in the development of integrated microphotonic devices, announced today that it will present a technical paper on its unique single-mode laser design and performance at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference(OFC) in Los Angeles, California. The paper describes how the company's etched facet technology has been used to create low cost single-mode lasers with integrated monitor photodetectors suitable for uncooled operation up to 80ºC. The lasers are produced without the use of regrowth or mechanical cleaving but exhibit optical performance similar to DFB lasers. Lasers of this type are ideal for fiber channel and gigabit Ethernet applications and can be modulated up to 10 Gbps.

Designated paper MF45, it will be presented at the poster session on Monday, February 23, 2004. It is the first paper the BinOptics technical team has presented at a major conference. The OFC technical program is a rigorous, peer-reviewed process that recognizes work representing the highest degree of technical achievement in the optics industry.

"This first OFC paper represents a significant milestone in the development of the BinOptics' technology" said Alex Behfar, CEO of BinOptics. "Our integrated laser products are designed to meet the demanding requirements of today's optical transceivers, offering industry-leading performance at greatly reduced cost. The single-mode laser presented in this paper allows the design of compact laser arrays and advanced integrated devices for challenging applications, including course wavelength division multiplexers and passive optical networks."
