CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Berkana Wireless Inc., a provider of highly integrated CMOS RF solutions for wireless connectivity, today announced it has named David Tahmassebi as president, CEO and co-chairman.
Mr. Tahmassebi comes from RF Micro Devices which acquired Resonext Communications Inc., an 802.11 fabless semiconductor company he co-founded in 2000. While president and CEO of Resonext, Mr. Tahmassebi led the company from product design to production. Previously, he managed the Consumer Business Unit of VLSI Technology and was involved in various sales and business development roles at VLSI and Stanford Telecom.
As a result of his appointment, Mr. Tahmassebi will take a seat on Berkana's board as co-chairman. "I am excited to join Berkana's dynamic technical team and take the company to the next level. The future of ubiquitous wireless connectivity is highly dependent on semiconductor companies' ability to provide cost optimized, low power, high performance and small foot print devices. Berkana's CMOS GSM/GPRS product provides the right architecture and platform for such offerings," stated Mr. Tahmassebi.
Mr. Tahmassebi replaces Dr. Cormac Conroy, who now becomes vice president of strategic marketing and business development. "David brings invaluable experience taking a wireless fabless CMOS start-up from an engineering centric organization to a complete company shipping product. With the world's first monolithic quad band GSM/GPRS CMOS transceiver chip sampling, Berkana is pleased to hand the baton to David," noted Dr. Conroy.
