Axcel Qualifies Its Diode

Axcel Photonics' 980nm pump laser diode is now qualified for 300mW operation

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Axcel Photonics Inc., a leading developer of semiconductor laser diodes, today announced that its 980 nm pump laser diode is now qualified for 300 mW operation. The lasers have been tested according to Telcordia document GR-468 at 300 mW and at a heatsink temperature of 85 ºC for more than 7000 hours without measurable degradation. A failure rate below 300 FIT is predicted for room temperature operation over a period of 25 years. “This level of reliability and performance has not been achieved at any recent start-up company. This validates the capabilities of the facet and the patented device design,” commented Dr. Wei Gao, CEO/President, Founder at Axcel. “High performance and high quality products is our promise to the customers. This qualification is a milestone to Axcel as well as to the customers.” continued Dr. Gao. “Device qualification is required before actual deployment in optical communication systems.
