MILPITAS, Calif. -- Aperto Networks, builder of the world's most advanced WiMAX Forum Certified(TM) base stations and subscriber units, and Veraz Networks, Inc., a leading global provider of IP softswitch and media gateway solutions, today announced that the two companies have partnered to deliver voice and IMS multimedia services over WiMAX. Together, Aperto and Veraz have built a joint demonstration lab, and are now demonstrating advanced IMS over WiMAX network solutions.

The joint 'IMS over WiMAX' demonstration lab includes a live link between Aperto's Milpitas headquarters and Veraz's San Jose headquarters. The lab showcases how the two platforms interoperate under a variety of service scenarios and demonstrates a reliable, high capacity, high quality WiMAX network delivering advanced multimedia services.

Aperto's industry-leading PacketMAX(TM) platform enables service providers to easily deploy, scale and offer broadband wireless services via point-to-point and point-to-multipoint networks.

Veraz's ControlSwitch allows service providers to deploy an advanced IMS network capable of delivering rich, IP-based multimedia services to both fixed and mobile subscribers.

Service providers can use the combined Aperto-Veraz solution for additional applications such as mobile operator backhaul and enterprise access. In these applications, Veraz's media gateways compress voice traffic, increasing up to 10 times the available voice capacity of WiMAX network links, while maintaining high voice quality. The additional applications and the voice compression allow service providers to improve the economics of IMS over WiMAX.
