Anritsu introduces handheld broadband cable and antenna analyzers for field environments and applications requiring mobility
March 31, 2005
MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- Anritsu Company introduces the Broadband Site Master* S810D/S820D cable and antenna analyzers that provide the widest frequency bandwidth of any handheld instrument, allowing for the precise detection of faults in cables and antennas used in wireless backhaul and defense applications. The new models, which cover 25 MHz to 20 GHz (S820D), provide greatly increased frequency coverage, performance and functionality in a truly portable instrument. By leveraging the highly successful Site Master handheld design, the S810D/S820D respond to the advanced needs for field test of point-to-point radios in private/public wireless networks, as well as for the servicing of aircraft and shipboard cable runs.
The S810D/S820D offer improved techniques for precisely detecting faults in cables and antennas, compared to Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) approaches. The analyzers use the proven Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) technique employed in all Site Master analyzers. FDR utilizes RF and microwave energy instead of DC pulses, thereby enabling earlier detection of faults that eventually cause catastrophic failure.
For microwave frequencies, the S810D/S820D combine vector error correction and waveguide dispersion corrections, for the industry's best portable distance-to-fault accuracy of ±1 cm in both coaxial and waveguide media. When time is critical, the S810D/S820D easily find connector transitions, jumpers, kinks, and degradation of antenna systems where benchtop instruments are not practical.
The S810D/S820D offer standard return loss, VSWR, cable loss and distance-to-fault (DTF) displays for installing, maintaining and trouble-shooting cables and antennas. In addition, an optional GPS receiver is available for providing location information with archived data. An optional Power Monitor feature enables the measurement of transmitters and long cables, when the analyzers are configured with an external synthesizer.
With increased measurement speed and faster DTF calculation capability, the S810D/S820D allow measurements to be updated and displayed in real time. The S810D/S820D also feature Anritsu's patented RF interference rejection to ensure accurate and repeatable measurements, even in the presence of high RF activity.
In addition to delivering high performance, the Site Master user interface(UI) makes conducting tests simple. The menu-driven UI is easy to use and has numerous one-button measurements, for increased speed and simplicity. A large and high-resolution color TFT display makes test interpretation easy and fast, even in direct sunlight. A full range of markers enables users to make accurate measurements. Simple pass/fail tests can also be performed quickly via limit lines.
A comprehensive data management and analysis software suite, Handheld Software Tools*, is standard with the S810D/S820D. Handheld Software Tools provides users with a simple and easy method of managing, archiving, and analyzing system performance, trends, and the general system condition. With the software, users can store field-acquired cable and antenna plots for downloading to any Windows-based PC. This allows test data to be analyzed and compared to historical performance. The use of historical date reduces field maintenance costs.
