FREMONT, Calif. -- Ample Communications, a leader in high-speed network silicon for enterprise and metropolitan area networks, today announced it has established a partnership with Nakra Labs of North Andover, Mass. Nakra Labs designs powerful, easy-to-use software that enables rapid design and deployment of networking and communications systems.

Through this partnership, Nakra Labs will supply the NLI Accelerator Suite of Software - a complete suite of software products - to support Ample Communications’ family of Framer Processors and Multiport Ethernet MAC devices. From off-the-shelf device manager software and associated simulators, to board and chassis management software, Nakra Labs’ solution gives network switch and router OEMs a significant time-to-market advantage by providing robust and reliable software that has been exhaustively tested with Ample Communications’ silicon.

The fully tested device manager software performs the majority of the network element software functionality necessary to control and monitor Ample’s silicon devices in a board-level implementation, saving up to six months of design effort. The device software provides a concise set of Application Programming Interface (API) function calls, specific to the Ample silicon, that isolates the designer from the specifics of the device so a more focused effort can be made on the unique attributes of the network system design.

“Ample Communications actively seeks industry partners, such as Nakra Labs, in keeping with our commitment to provide customers with complete, interoperable, chip-set and software solutions,” said Marek Tlalka, vice president of marketing for Ample Communications. “Through our partnership with Nakra Labs, we free our customers from the extra steps of searching out complementary devices and software. This reduces our customers’ development costs and accelerates their design cycle. The resulting decrease in time-to-market is critical for our switch and router OEM customers who are under constant market pressure to deliver faster and cheaper network connections.”

“Working closely with Ample Communications and drawing on our extensive experience in communications software development enables Nakra Labs to provide highly reliable off-the-shelf device manager and network management software for both current and future Ample products,” said Jahangir Nakra, president and founder of Nakra Labs. “We are strong believers in Ample’s technology, and look forward to our continued partnership to support customers with cost-effective software for their high-speed networking and communications systems.”

Nakra Labs’ software is operating system and processor independent. The standards-compliant ANSI C code enables OEMs to rapidly design and deploy network and communications systems. Owing to the easy to use Application Programming Interface, the user can quickly integrate the code into the system environment and can achieve data transmission thru the system. The uniform Application Programming Interface also facilitates easy migration to the next generation Ample Communications devices. Exhaustive testing on Ample Communications’ silicon ensures first pass success of the software and the system being implemented.

Nakra Labs is also working with Ample Communications to provide software device drivers for silicon devices currently under development, using the Nakra Labs Rapid Driver Development Platform. This platform allows the drivers to be developed in tandem with Ample’s silicon design effort, insuring that drivers will be available prior to when Ample first samples new silicon to its customers.
