FREMONT, Calif. -- Ample Communications today announced it has closed a $15 million third round of private venture funding, bringing the total investment in the Company to $53 million. The Company is a key silicon supplier to top-tier network, communications and computer equipment vendors.

Lead investors of this third round are David Mimran, vice chairman of Milestone Merchant Partners, LLC, and Kinetic Ventures. Mimran has also been named to Ample Communications’ board of directors. Other participants in this round of funding include previous investors CenterPoint Ventures, InterWest Partners, Rho Ventures and Storm Ventures as well as company founders.

Building on its successful track record, the Company continues to build momentum as it enters 2004 in expansion mode. This additional capital will fuel the production ramp of existing products as well as development and delivery of new client-side products that leverage the Company’s proven intellectual property.

“Leveraging the expertise we have developed in network and communications infrastructure silicon to expand our product portfolio to client side applications will present us with additional market opportunities,” said Vish Akella, CEO and co-founder of Ample Communications. “Our goal is to be a premier provider of highly-integrated silicon solutions from core to desktop – connecting both sides of the wire.”

As part of this aggressive expansion, in September Ample Communications announced its intent to extend its Ethernet product portfolio to PCI Express™ -based applications. PCI Express is the interface of choice for all upcoming desktop, server, and mobile computing platforms.

With revenue shipments underway since 2001, Ample Communications has proven its leadership in high-speed, high-density merchant silicon. Wide customer acceptance of Ample Communications’ technology has resulted in more than 30 design wins for the Company’s products.

“Ample Communications has made all the right moves, evolving from an emerging start-up in 2000 to an established, private market player with revenue and leadership products,” said Mimran. “The Company has demonstrated very strong customer ties, a decisive management team and a road map that incorporates important trends in the communications market. I am looking forward to this new position on Ample Communications’ board of directors, as well as the opportunity to join a team with such a proven track record.”

“The innovations that Ample Communications has achieved are changing the way network equipment providers design chassis-based systems,” said Tom Rosch, general partner of InterWest Partners. “Expanding the IP that the team has developed to address both infrastructure and client-side markets will solidify the Company’s position as a key provider to top tier communications, network and computer equipment manufacturers.”
