Altai Technologies announces launch of city-wide WiFi network in Malaysia

HONG KONG -- The world’s leading outdoor WiFi solution provider, Altai Technologies Limited today announced the launch of city-wide WiFi network in Miri, Sarawak of Malaysia. Residents of Miri, Sibu, Mukah and Betong can now enjoy wireless broadband Internet connection. The network is built in phases by Danawa Resources and powered by Altai’s WiFi cellular technology, more cities will be covered with wireless broadband access later this year.

Danawa Resources is the leading Internet Service Provider in Sarawak to offer ubiquitous wireless Internet connectivity. The official launch of Wireless Sarawak was held on 10 Jan, 2008 at Miri’s Curtin University, Sarawak by Malaysia’s Federal Minister of Energy, Water and Communications, Yang Berhormat Dato’s Sri Dr Lim Keng Yaik and Sarawak’s Chief Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The launch of the Wireless Sarawak project is a significant milestone for Sarawak’s k-economy and k-society strategies. It marks the beginning of the Malaysian broadband revolution. This Wireless Sarawak is to in line with the Malaysia Government’s vision to increase the household broadband penetration rate from the current 1.3% to 50% by 2009, therefore Danawa Resources has chosen Altai’s WiFi base station to construct outdoor wireless broadband network around the Sarawak state, providing free WiFi services to residents until end of 2008.
