EATONTOWN, N.J. -- Alphion Corporation, developer of innovative integrated components for photonic regeneration, signal conditioning, wavelength management, and performance monitoring, announced today the launch of their first product, a Photonic 2R (P2R) transponder based on Alphion's proprietary QLightT platform.
The Alphion P2R transponder eliminates the need for optical-to-electrical conversion required in traditional OEO transponders. The P2R amplifies the degraded signal and provides noise cancellation while offering wavelength flexibility. P2R transponders can be used in existing and future Metro and Long-Haul DWDM systems, OADM, ROADM, Photonic Cross-Connects, CATV transport systems, and secure defense networks, where cost reduction, noise cancellation, wavelength flexibility, and bit-rate transparency are sought.
The Alphion photonic networking technology eliminates the bandwidth barriers for consumers and the cost barriers for service providers in building transparent optical networks with dynamic bit-rate, protocol, and wavelength reconfigurability.
The QLightT platform is based on breakthroughs in monolithic integration on InP and advanced packaging technologies. Alphion owns rights to over 30 issued and pending patents related to design, fabrication and applications of photonic integrated circuits.
"The QLightT platform is the foundation for aggregating multiple network functions in monolithic photonic integrated circuits", said Dr. Bharat P. Dave, Chairman, President, and CEO of Alphion Corporation, "Our photonic transponder makes photonic networking a reality and establishes new benchmarks for cost and performance."
Alphion is unveiling the QLightT technology and the P2R transponder product line with a public demonstration at the 2004 OFC Conference and exhibition in Los Angeles, February 22-27, 2004 (Booth 4444). Alphion is beginning customer sampling of P2R.
