Aleron Buys Telia Backbone

Privately-held global network provider has agreed to acquire the US Internet backbone subsidiary of Telia AB

McLEAN, Va. -- Aleron, a privately-held global network provider based in McLean, Virginia, announced today that it has agreed to acquire Telia Internet, Inc. (TII). TII, based in Reston, Virginia, is the US Internet backbone subsidiary of Telia AB. Aleron is financially backed by investment funds of Goldman, Sachs & Co., a global investment banking and securities firm. The TII acquisition is consistent with Aleron's plans to accelerate growth through strategic acquisitions. The TII backbone network, spanning the continental US, will provide Aleron with valuable capacity and points of presence. Aleron is developing a global Internet backbone network based on advanced network technology. "The acquisition of this Tier-1 network is a significant step towards positioning Aleron as a leader in the rapidly growing market for global Internet services," said Aleron Chairman and CEO Paolo Guidi. "TII's network assets complement Aleron's strategy very well, and will contribute to Aleron's global reach and interconnectivity.
