MAKUHARI MESSE, Japan -- Alereon, Inc., the Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology leader for WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB applications, today announced they will demonstrate the first high-performance modules developed by Murata and based on Alereon's AL5000 chipset for worldwide Wireless USB applications at CEATEC.
Alereon will be demonstrating their first worldwide Wireless USB module at CEATEC October 2-6 2007 in their booth in the WiMedia Pavilion located in the Business & Society Zone, Hall 2, Booth 2B49. Murata Manufacturing Co,. Ltd. developed the module for the CEATEC demonstration. The module has passed Japanese regulatory TELEC Test Certification, allowing over-the-air operation in band group 6. The module will also be demonstrated at the Murata booth (6E112) during CEATEC. The demonstrations will include two Wireless USB modules communicating in band group 6 over the air. In addition, modules will be connected to a spectrum analyzer to demonstrate the transmit spectrum across band groups 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Modules will also demonstrate receiver sensitivity through a cabled connection across band groups 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
The demonstration will showcase the AL5000-based Wireless USB module that meets frequency spectrum requirements worldwide, including the upper band groups required in Japan, Korea and the European Union.Alereon's AL5000 chipset transmits and receives WiMedia band groups one, two, three, four, five and six which span frequencies from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. Supporting band groups four, five and six (7.4 to 10.6 GHz) enables all 17 channels which is required to provide consumers in Japan and Korea comparable performance to applications in the rest of the world. The AL5000 chipset supports band group six, which unlike alternative solutions that provide only band groups one and three, is the only band group to meet all worldwide regulations. Support of only band groups one and three provides Japan and Korea a single channel of communications, greatly reducing performance and range.
"With the development of this module, and others which will follow, Alereon is making wireless USB a global reality," said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "This will allow manufacturers of PCs, peripherals and mobile devices to offer products with new value-added capabilities, such as the ability to transfer data, without wires, at USB speeds, on a worldwide scale."
