PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has been selected by Lao Telecommunications (LTC), Laos' leading incumbent operator, to provide industry-leading Intelligent Network solutions in the fast-growing Lao mobile market. The contract was won in open tender, jointly through Alcatel in Thailand and Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's flagship Chinese company.
Under the terms of this contract, Alcatel will supply LTC with turnkey Intelligent Network solutions built on its field-proven Open Services Platform (OSP) to cover the entire Laos. The Intelligent Network can support cutting-edge mobile services such as Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS) and video streaming.
In addition, Alcatel will implement its industry-leading real-time payment solutions in LTC's network, which will integrate smoothly with LTC's existing billing and customer care solutions, for both prepaid and post paid accounts to maximize the operator's return on investment.
"We're pleased to be working with Alcatel again. These advanced and flexible payment solutions suit our needs to provide tailor-made payment alternatives to our subscribers according to different user profiles and service types," said Houmphanh Intharath, general director of LTC. "By successfully deploying these value-added services, we can provide a much wider choice of new and attractive mobile services and applications to end-users."
"LTC is the market leader in Laos and the deployment of Alcatel's Intelligent Network solutions will help LTC to further strengthen this leadership. Alcatel is fully committed to supporting LTC in developing, deploying and marketing the most attractive voice and data services to its subscribers." declared Jean-Michel Cornille, President of Alcatel's mobile solution activities.
