BANGKOK, Thailand -- Huawei Technologies, today announced that its GPRS Pre-Paid Service (GPRS-PPS) solution has been put into commercial application with AIS, Thailand's largest mobile operator. This is the first commercial GPRS-PPS system in Thailand.
The core element of the GPRS-PPS system is Huawei's Gateway GPRS Supporting Node (GGSN). Featuring an excellent interoperability with SGSN products provided by other vendors, the GGSN supports GPRS Service Switching Function (gprsSSF) and CAMEL 3, serving as the Service Switching Point (SSP) of the GPRS-IN. It is now providing GPRS-based Internet and WAP applications for the Pre-Paid Service (PPS) subscribers of AIS. Also, it handles the packet data services for other post-paid subscribers.

"Before the launch of the GPRS-PPS system, only post-paid subscribers have access to the plentiful services with GPRS, such as MMS and web surfing," said Mr. Wang Cheng, President in Charge of Asian & Pacific Business & Operation at Huawei Technologies, "now the PPS subscribers in Thailand can also have chance to experience the colorful life brought by GPRS." The AIS project is just one of many success stories of Huawei GPRS solutions.
In other news, Huawei has built GPRS network for Shandong Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile, in which Huawei now holds a share of up to 80% in the GPRS market of Shandong, an economic powerhouse in northern China.
