SAN MATEO, Calif. -- AirWave Wireless Inc., a leading wireless network management software developer, today announced the release of its new AirWave Management Platform(TM) (AMP) version 3.0 software. The new version of the company's flagship platform delivers greatly enhanced scalability, providing network administrators an integrated, web-based "master console" from which they can seamlessly manage wireless networks with thousands of access points from most leading hardware vendors. AMP 3.0 also features enhanced RF monitoring to automatically detect and eliminate common sources of RF interference, as well as more flexible device management capabilities to enable management of an even broader range of Wi-Fi devices.

"Our wireless network is growing rapidly to enable mobile access to Computerized Patient Record information. The AirWave Management Platform 3.0 gives us the ability to monitor performance and usage via one web interface, no matter how big our network gets," said Scott Campbell, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center's Senior Network Systems Analyst. "AMP's 24x7 network management and sophisticated visual representation of our wireless network allows us to provide consistent, reliable access to all our users."

While Wi-Fi networks give users unprecedented freedom and mobility, they present network administrators with a host of challenges that require new strategies and tools. The AirWave Management Platform provides a single point of intelligent control from which multiple network administrators can remotely monitor and configure Wi-Fi hardware devices from most leading manufacturers.

The new AMP 3.0 release leverages AMP's flexible, distributed software architecture to introduce the AirWave 'Master Console,' which enables large customers to manage global wireless networks with thousands of wireless APs in thousands of locations from a single console. AMP's efficient distributed architecture enables the system to gather granular, real-time information about devices and users without flooding the network with management traffic or requiring local agents across the network. Any server running the AMP software may be designated the "master console" from which to monitor and control all other servers, allowing organizations to seamlessly upgrade their management capacity as their wireless networks grow.

The new software release provides enhanced RF monitoring capabilities, gathering information from the wireless access points and other network resources to detect and alert administrators when RF interference threatens to affect network performance. AMP 3.0 integrates with RF monitoring solutions that use hardware 'sensors' to gather even richer performance data, enabling administrators to act upon this information via AMP's web user interface and eliminate potential problems.

"The need for sophisticated RF monitoring, intelligent diagnostics, and proactive management has become increasingly clear to our end users," said Gary Hegna, AirWave CEO. "Rather than trying to address this need with expensive, proprietary hardware, AMP delivers multi-vendor management software that allows organizations to select whatever hardware best meets their needs and budgets."
