BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Airspan Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:AIRN), a leading worldwide provider of broadband fixed wireless DSL networks, and its Serbian partner, Jugotrade, announced today that the first orders have been received from Telekom Srbija to support roll-out of its fixed wireless access project in Serbia.

Telekom Srbija is the incumbent telecommunications operator in the Republic of Serbia and had previously announced a decision to deploy more than 100,000 new telephony and data lines using fixed-wireless access technology.

Agreement has been reached on the first phase of the project for 19,000 lines utilizing Airspan's technology, with an immediate commitment for 6,000 lines. Deployment will initially be in three regions, including the capital of Belgrade, and will start in January 2004.

The value of this phase of the project is approximately $3 million. Deliveries will occur from December through the first half of 2004.

Srdjan Bogosavljevic, director, residential customer division of Telekom Srbija, commented: "After a long period of evaluation of system capabilities and economics, we are now initiating the real deployment phase of this project. We look forward to being able to provide new services reliably and quickly to many new and existing customers."

The technology deployed will be Airspan's AS40X0 product family, a true wireline equivalent proposition for both ILECs and CLECs. Circuit-switched voice and broadband DSL data support gives carriers the choice of transparent support for traditional services or next generation IP voice approaches. The AS4020 system delivers up to 2.3Mbit/s downstream and 1.5Mbit/s upstream data rate, making it tailor-made for residential, SOHO and SME applications. It allows the carrier to combine voice and data requirements onto a single access platform, thereby reducing operational costs and fault rates. The AS4030 system utilizes OFDMA technology built around the 802.16 Media Access Control layer, and is used for backhaul.
