SAN JOSE, Calif. -- ArrayComm, Inc., the world leader in smart antenna technology, today announced that its patented IntelliCell(R) technology dramatically improved performance in a GSM base station during a recent demonstration. In addition to multiplying network capacity by up to six times, the new base station offers clearer calls, fewer dropped calls and higher data rates for cellular users. Through its licensing agreement with AirNet Communications Corp., ArrayComm has integrated its IntelliCell fully adaptive smart antenna technology into AirNet's new broadband SuperCapacity(TM) AdaptaCell(R) base station for GSM. AirNet recently demonstrated the SuperCapacity AdaptaCell base station for a number of potential customers at its headquarters in Melbourne, Fla., dramatically illustrating the improvement over conventional non-adaptive-antenna GSM technology. During these AirNet field tests, potential customers observed both IntelliCell adaptive-antenna-based and non-adaptive antenna-based wireless calls placed in identical conditions. The adaptive-antenna solution, using a multi-antenna array, demonstrated up to 30 dB of improvement in uplink interference rejection, a 5 dB gain in delivered power to the user of interest, and 17 dB less interference to a co-channel user. These results translate into dramatic capacity gains for GSM network operators and far lower hardware and maintenance costs, decreasing the required number of cell sites by up to six times. "We have designed a state-of-the-art GSM base station that truly has our customers' interests in mind, enabling them to save money in both the rollout and maintenance of their networks," said Glenn Ehley, president and CEO of AirNet. "Our collaboration with ArrayComm has given us a distinct technology advantage in this competitive market by adding the adaptive antenna technology at the heart of this base station. It's part of our `secret sauce' to deliver a superior GSM base station to the market." ArrayComm Inc. AirNet Communications Corp.
