SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Airespace, Inc., announced today that the Airespace 1200 Access Point (AP) is among the first APs to receive certification in all categories offered by the Wi-Fi Alliance. Specifically, the Airespace system was certified to be compliant with all "flavors" of the IEEE's 802.11 specification (a, b, and g), as well as fully compliant with the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) specification, the Wi-Fi Alliance's data encryption method that is a pre-cursor to the emerging 802.11i specification. By being among the first APs to achieve certification in all of these areas, Airespace is furthering its leadership position in the WLAN space by demonstrating a strong commitment to developing standards-based solutions that ensure seamless operations and market longevity.

"Wi-Fi Certification is a clear indication that a company is committed to quality and customer satisfaction," said Frank Hanzlik, Managing Director of the Wi-Fi Alliance. "This has become an important criteria to effectively compete in retail and enterprise markets."

Airespace has repeatedly demonstrated a firm commitment to promoting standards within the wireless industry. In addition to assisting in the development of the initial 802.11 specification, Airespace co-authored the Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP), an industry specification introduced to the IETF to ensure interoperability between different vendors' lightweight APs and WLAN Switches and Appliances. Widespread adoption of the LWAPP standard will assist enterprises in choosing WLAN equipment that maximizes functionality while reducing the risk or proprietary vendor lock-in.

"By adhering to common industry standards, Airespace is helping grow the enterprise wireless LAN marketplace," said Alan Cohen, vice president of marketing at Airespace. "Completing all of the Wi-Fi Alliance's areas of 802.11 certification is a great achievement for Airespace and a good indication of our commitment to delivering a wireless LAN system that is ready for business."
