WILMINGTON, Mass. -- Agiltron, Inc., a vertically integrated manufacturer of premium fiberoptic components, today announced that it has entered into a technology licensing agreement with Oluma, Inc. for a MEMS-based Variable Optical Attenuator (VOA). In addition, Agiltron has hired two former Oluma engineers, Jian Li and Bruce He, who were responsible for the development of the MEMS TVOA and has acquired all Oluma assets, inventory and tooling related to the VOA manufacturing. Agiltron’s founder and President, Dr. Jing Zhao, stated that “the addition of this MEMS-based VOA technology will significantly enhance Agiltron’s VOA product line by including a low cost Telcordia qualified device that will complement our high-reliability all-solid-state VOA products. The acquisition of all inventory and tooling and the addition of Jian and Bruce to our staff will insure a smooth product transition and continued customer support.”
Agiltron is immediately offering MM Series VOA products based on this technology that utilizes a micro-electro-mechanical mechanism and features integrated compact design, simple construction, easy direct drive, and excellent optical performance. Compliant with the Telcordia 1209 and 1221 reliability standards, the MM Series VOA products are available in either normally-open or normally-closed configuration and with an integrated input tap option. The VOA is driven with an electrical current at low voltage and the attenuation can be continuously adjusted with the applied current. The device has a typical insertion loss of 0.4 dB and attenuation of 25 dB with a 22.6 mm long and 6 mm diameter package.
