BEIJING -- Agilent Technologies sees great promise in China's pool of research talent and has launched a laboratory to develop fibre optic communication technology, a company official said on Tuesday.

"The reason for Beijing is one, the high calibre of schools here," said Thomas Saponas, chief technology officer of Agilent Technologies. "And from a long-term standpoint, China is going to be one of the most important countries in the world in terms of high technology."
