LONDON -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that its Intensi-fi(TM) draft-802.11n wireless chipsets are now available in Acer's new Ferrari notebook computers, providing high-performance Wi-Fi(R) connectivity. By integrating next generation Broadcom(R) wireless LAN technology into the Ferrari 1000 computers, Acer is providing notebook customers with the speed and reliability to handle the most intense applications on a Wi-Fi network, such as gaming and audio/video streaming.
Broadcom Intensi-fi chipsets power Acer's InviLink(TM) Nplify(TM) accelerated mobile wireless technology, which enables notebook customers to experience new voice, video and music applications when connected to a wireless network. Intensi-fi technology delivers robust wireless connections throughout a home or office with up to seven times faster throughput than current 802.11g products. Notebook PCs equipped with Broadcom Intensi-fi solutions are also compatible with the leading brands of wireless routers, including draft-802.11n products from companies such as Buffalo Technology, Linksys and NETGEAR.
"High-performance wireless connectivity is becoming a must-have feature for notebooks as consumers use their PCs for bandwidth-intensive multimedia applications beyond typical data transfers and Internet surfing," said Michael Hurlston, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Wireless LAN Business Unit. "Broadcom is working with industry leading vendors to integrate Intensi-fi technology into a variety of PCs and networking equipment, creating an ecosystem of interoperable, standards-based products that provide an unparalleled wireless experience for next generation applications."
As the world's fourth largest notebook brand, Acer combines state-of-the-art performance, elegant design and proven reliability to reflect the spirit and passion of Formula One racing. The ultra-portable Ferrari 1000 integrates Broadcom's Intensi-fi and Blutonium(R) Bluetooth(R) 2.0 wireless technologies to deliver seamless communication. The Ferrari 1000 also features wired technologies, including a Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet solution and an integrated 56K ITU V.92 modem.
"Broadcom Intensi-fi solutions enable our customers to stream large-content files from their notebooks to other digital devices via extremely fast and reliable Wi-Fi connections," said David Lee, Head of Product Management, Mobile Computing Business Unit, Acer Inc. "Acer selects the most advanced technologies to deliver notebooks with uncompromising performance and mobility -- exemplifying our long term commitment to empower people to achieve more through dependable and easy-to-use technology."
