WUHAN, China -- Accelink Technologies Corp Ltd., the leading optical component developer in China, released the industry's first Tunable Power Splitter based on its patent pending design.

In contrast to traditional fused fiber splitter, this optical power splitter provide tunable splitting ratio. For the 1x2 device, the splitting ratio could be dynamically adjusted from 99% : 1% to 1% : 99%. The designs are based on polarization states processing, but they are polarization independent devices. The splitting ratio could be adjusted with a screw driver, so that a pure passive device. Accelink also provides the option with Liquid Crystal unit built-in, so that a signal control able device.

Comparing with the variable attenuator, this device provides the same function, but all attenuated power is still kept at the other port, this power could be used for protection, monitoring, or multicast purpose.

Nevertheless, these devices could be regarded as a 1x2, 1x4 optical switches too, if we turn all optical power into preferred output ports. These dynamic power management devices are designed to support the customers to upgrade, migrate, and enhance their networks quickly, reliably and economically. Instead of technology for technology's sake, Accelink's effort is on providing products and solutions that improve performance and reduce costs, both from a CAPEX and OPEX perspective.

Accelink will introduce these 1x2 and 1x4 Tunable Power Splitter, as well as many other devices at OFC 2004, Los Angeles, booth #3836. The Tunable Power Splitters have passed Telcordia 1209 reliability test and Telcordia 1221 test is on going.
