It's been a great year for women in the next-generation communications industry. Despite some setbacks in the realm of politics and paychecks, women in our industry continue to take on high-profile positions, drive important technological advancements and fight for equal pay and more support in the workplace.
There's a lot to celebrate, but there's also a lot of work still be done. That's why we're calling all progressive companies to join Women in Comms for an even bigger and better 2017! WiC, along with 40 of the leading telecom service providers, vendors and industry associations, is gearing up for a year full of new faces, new events, new content online and the same important mission -- empowering women, championing change and redressing the gender imbalance in the next-gen comms industry.
Helping to give our mission more visibility, a larger audience and new resources is the exciting fact that Informa plc has acquired Light Reading. This new relationship has the potential to amplify Women in Comms' message, expand our audience both online and for live events and to help us make bigger steps toward our goals. We now have the opportunity to do more together with Light Reading and Informa's brands like Women in TMT, Ovum, Xconomy, Channel Partners and more. (See Light Reading Beyond.)
And that brings us to what has us the most excited about 2017 -- the one-day conference that we held ahead of the Big Communications Event (BCE) in Austin, Texas, this year will be back and better than ever -- and we're going to Vegas, baby! Next year, WiC is joining forces with BCE, 5G North America, SDxE and Channel Partners Conference & Expo to create TechXLR8, the ultimate festival of digital infrastructure. That means a 10,000 combined participants will be making their way to Sin City, and WiC will be there to greet them.
On Monday, April 10, WiC is reviving its one-day conference with its signature networking luncheon, two power panels with top female leaders from across the industry and a job fair to give women a direct and immediate way to explore new opportunities in the industry. All are invited, and we hope you'll join us for what will be an outstanding event. (See WiC Pics: Women in Comms Takes Austin and WiC: Change Starts With Women, Must Include Men.)
Other exciting opportunities to get involved next year include:
- Quarterly networking breakfast events across the US and in London
- Online exposure through radio shows, video interviews, news stories, press releases and more
- A Board of Advisors that's open to both our member companies and individuals in the industry that want to play a bigger role themselves
- More Mentor Monday profiles of outstanding female leaders (in addition to the 65(!) we already have done)
- Mentor matching and community outreach through partners
- and much more!
We hope you will join us. There is strength in numbers, and we know we are better together, so please get in touch if you'd like to join us and make a positive difference for women in our industry next year and well into the future.
