Eurobites: Alcatel-Lucent Reaches Finnish Line

  • NokAlu is go! Nokia has gained control of Alcatel-Lucent following a successful public exchange offer that will see the Finnish vendor holding nearly 80% of outstanding shares in its former rival. The first day of trading as a joint entity will be January 14.   • Olaf Swantee is to step down as CEO of EE once the UK mobile operator has been acquired by BT -- a deal which is due to be completed early this year. Swantee will be replaced by Marc Allera, currently EE's chief commercial officer. In a statement, Swantee said that he planned to "pursue new opportunities."   • Swedish car maker Volvo is to develop intelligent, high-bandwidth streaming capabilities for self-driving vehicles in partnership with Ericsson. Ericsson is predicting a future where streamed content for non-driving passengers can be automatically tailored to the duration of each trip. So if you're planning to watch the complete boxed set of Homeland, it will tell you to take the long way round.

  • Zayo Group Inc. (NYSE: ZAYO), the Colorado-based provider of communications infrastructure services, has expanded its European footprint after completing its acquisition of Viatel from Ireland's Digiweb Ltd. , for €98.8 million (US$107.6 million).
