NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Tellabs announced that Broadwing Inc. (NYSE: BRW) has selected the new Tellabs(R) 6400 transport switch to expand its network capabilities. The Tellabs 6400 transport switch provides Broadwing with a next-generation optical grooming platform that enables Broadwing to quickly and more efficiently provision new services to customers across its nationwide all-optical switched network. "Broadwing's installation of the Tellabs 6400 transport switch is an excellent example of our success-based capital model," said Ed DeLong, vice president of Network Planning and Engineering for Broadwing. "Triggered by the overwhelming success of our MultiConnect product, the deployment of the Tellabs switch has enabled us to cost effectively add a next-generation optical grooming platform that can profitably scale with demand at a fraction of the cost of traditional grooming." The Tellabs 6400 transport switch consolidates multiple network elements into a two square-foot, single-shelf platform that enables service providers to optimize the edge of their network. In addition, by using the high-density Tellabs 6400 transport switch with its single switch architecture, service providers can maximize network efficiency and increase profitability. Broadwing Inc.
