Zyxel keeps a strong focus on innovation to meet the needs of both communications service providers (CSP) and their subscribers. Zyxel designs solutions for easy management, fast deployment and flexibility to support various industry standards and open-source options. The vendor’s stated goal is to keep its CSPs ahead of competitors with affordable pricing and feature-rich solutions that simplify deployment and management.

The company offers mobile and fixed technology solutions supporting multiple standards and protocols, including 5G,FTTX, GPON, XGS-PON, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7. Aware that a one-size-fits-all approach fails to satisfy all customer needs, Zyxel says its portfolio is designed to provide the flexibility and versatility required by a dynamic, constantly evolving market.

Diverse Switch Offerings

Zyxel’s comprehensive roster of switches delivers various options, with devices featuring five to as many as 48 ports. Zyxel says it designs switches with scalability in mind, making it easier for carriers to extend access in traditional data centers and at the edge. Increasingly, businesses rely on hybrid IT infrastructures that combine on-premise, edge and data center assets, putting pressure on providers to deliver reliable, scalable connectivity regardless of environment.

Service providers can choose between different port combinations when deploying Zyxel switches. For instance, Zyxel offers 10G multi-gigabit ports in solutions such as the XS3800 Series and XS1930 Series.

The XGS1250-12 features 1G, 10G Multi-Gigabit, and 10G fiber ports, a combination that makes it possible to support a range of network devices, such as the iMac Pro, Wi-Fi 6 access points, 2.5 motherboards and 10G network attached storage (NAS) devices.

The XGS1250-12 features both copper and fiber ports that support 10G connectivity, giving operators further connectivity options so they can add 10G devices as dictated by evolving requirements.

Fiber to Home Options

Beyond switches, Zyxel has built a strong portfolio of FTTH solutions for high-speed internet access. FTTH significantly boosts speed and bandwidth compared to traditional connections such as DSL and coaxial. This improves the experience of users, allowing them to enjoy higher-quality video streaming and get more reliable connectivity for work-related tasks such as accessing databases and using Zoom and Microsoft Teams for remote meetings.

Zyxel emphasizes flexibility, interoperability and innovation for FTTH solutions, giving service providers multiple connectivity options to extend to subscribers. As an example, the Zyxel XGS-PON ONT FTTH device features built-in fiber cages that make it easier to manage cables for deployment and maintenance. This boosts efficiency for providers.

Zyxel’s FTTH solutions include GPON offerings such as the compact-sized PM5311-T0 GPON VoIP Bridge ONT with 2.5GbE LAN. Zyxel also supports the XGS PON standard with fiber boxes such as the PM7516.

Designed with flexibility in mind, this a cost-effective solution for service providers looking to meet subscribers’ evolving requirements. It gives providers plenty of customization options if they need to add Layer-3 devices.

Another benefit for providers is support for the Open OMCI standard, which focuses on interoperability. Open OMCI prevents carriers from getting locked into proprietary architectures and specific technologies. Instead, they can choose the solutions that best fit their needs and those of their customers. For instance, Open OMCI allows a provider to supply SMB customers with XGS-PON ONT bridges while providing Wi-Fi routers for end users.

Residential Gateway Products

Zyxel extends its philosophy of flexibility and scalability to the devices that are deployed in the home or business office. The company’s Wi-Fi gateways and extenders support options for Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6/6E. The devices provide support for xDSL up to 10G WAN.

The Zyxel portfolio of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E wireless offerings includes the EX7710 10G Ethernet Gateway, which delivers speeds of up to 10G. With this solution, carriers can meet customer demand for stable connections supporting 4K and 8K UHD streaming. The same is true for subscribers that need support for VR, AR and IoT applications.

Options include non-blocking designs and multi-gig LAN ports. This capability significantly reduces congestion and interference, especially in homes with multiple users and devices that can strain bandwidth.

Zyxel’s Wi-Fi CPE products feature remote management capabilities through the TR-069 protocol. Service providers leverage this capability to manage, configure, monitor, diagnose and perform routine maintenance on client devices without truck rolls or end user interruptions. The company also is planning to add TR-369 capability, which allows for the use of multiple controllers, to upcoming products.

Zyxel has also introduced Wi-Fi 6/6E gateways and extenders with Plume OpenSync support, which enables CSPs to deliver smart home services rapidly and at scale. With OpenSync, available in products such as EX3510WX3310 and EX7710, providers get complete network control and the ability to deliver personalization, security and customization.

Lastly, by leveraging Zyxel Wi-Fi solutions, providers can deliver Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) to subscribers without access of 5G connectivity. So, whatever the requirements providers need to fill, it’s likely that Zyxel has a solution to help them.
