Supercomm 2009: Party Central
CHICAGO -- Supercomm 2009 -- The show floor might be smaller, but at least Supercomm can still be the source of a good party.
Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) didn't have a booth, opting for some meeting suites at the show, but it did invite all attendees to a reception held in a McCormick Center ballroom. Other companies hosted drinks on the show floor or treated guests to touristy spots around town.
Light Reading can't be everywhere, so you won't find photos of Tuesday night's Genband Inc. bash or Wednesday's Tpack A/S reception held at the Willis Tower. We also weren't able to crash an industry dinner with FCC chair Julius Genachowski, also at the Willis Tower.
But we did capture at least a taste of five different parties or beer-drinking gatherings. Enjoy.

Yes, the Expo seemed very slow this year, but the conference sessions were good.

Supercomm reviewed based upon the availability of beer....sad. I heard that the show only attracted about 1,500 attendees. If this is the premier show for our industry, it has become a pretty sad day.

btw, the pictures of Adtran's party don't do it justice. They packed that HoB theater, including the balconies. Not sure there was much ROI to be had, but it was the closest to a bubble experience that the show offered. (Metaswitch had a better band, though.)

Ha - not sure how I should take that! In my defense, I'll note that for the college-kids picture, I simply asked to photograph the back of the T-shirt. A few men were wearing the shirts too, but they all shifted away from the camera. I think that's because the women were actually in charge of the shirts (which were being sold as a fundraiser for the C.E.O. organization).
Glad I didn't include the segway picture too!

Was there a time when we *didn't* rate the show on availability of beer? :)
There's more photos to come. This set just seemed appropriate to publish before the show was over.

Agree! The Adtran party was a lot of fun, right down to the light-up ice cubes!
And the Adva Octoberfest was a nice sanctuary at the end of the day. Who can resist cold beer and bavarian pretzels anyway?
