MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- ZTE joined an elite group of companies that now have certified G-PON products, after successfully completing the Broadband Forum’s rigorous BBF.247 testing program. Certificates were awarded to the eight pioneering companies during a ceremony held at the Broadband Forum’s Q4 meeting in Marina del Rey, California, earlier this week. The seven other vendors with products to achieve G-PON certification: Alcatel-Lucent, Broadlight, Cambridge Industries Group, Huawei, PMC-Sierra, PT Inovação and Tecom.

The Broadband Forum G-PON Certification Program was developed in response to the industry’s need for interoperability to help speed the widespread adoption of fiber based networks. BBF.247 verifies the conformance of G-PON ONU products to the ITU-T G-PON standard and to Broadband Forum specifications. Following the conclusion of the program’s beta testing phase, ZTE is the first company to step forward to achieve the certification now that there is open enrollment.

Zhang Hongjuan and Peng Qiang of ZTE commented: “We welcome the Certification and are delighted to be among the first to achieve this important step. With Broadband Forum Certification we can be sure that our R&D investment in next generation PON technologies - both G-PON and beyond – are in line with market requirements and service providers’ expectations.”
