NEW DELHI -- ZTE Corporation, (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced it has successfully completed the world's first large-scale commercial GPON-based mobile backhaul network for TELKOM Indonesia, a full-service telecom operator in Indonesia. The project is the first such large-scale commercialization of GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networking) backhaul technology, and is based on ZTE’s mobile network platform.

With Indonesia’s strong growth in broadband demand in recent years, TELKOM Indonesia needed to meet traditional voice service demands and its current extensive range of broadband services such as high-speed Internet, IPTV and online games, while also considering the integration of fixed and mobile networks to cater for future bandwidth growth.

As one of the fastest growing mobile user markets in the world, the number of users served by TELKOM Group in Indonesia had reached almost 118.2 million by Q3 of 2010. According to Point-Topic's World Broadband report (3rd quarter of 2009), the broadband penetration rate in the Southeast Asian market was less than 10%, but the broadband market growth was the fastest sector, reaching an increase of 6.32% per quarter.
