HONG KONG -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei") a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today unveiled a super-large capacity Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) solution with up to 1 Terabit switching capacity at IEC's Broadband World Forum Asia 2006.

Aimed at helping operators provide more flexible and reliable services, Huawei's SmartAX OFA5920 GPON solution, complies with ITU-T G984.1/2/3/4 standards and is the industry's first GPON access platform with Terabit non-blocking switching capability and full redundancy design. Only a GPON system realizing Terabit non-blocking switching can fully implement the high-bandwidth characteristics of fibers. GPON enables refined service awareness, flexible service mapping, flexible QoS, and elaborate DBA (64 kbps granularity) to help operators provide more flexible and reliable services. With the SmartAX OFA5920 GPON, operators can fully realize the potential of high quality Gigabit access and provide users with reliable voice, data, and video services at a downlink and uplink rate of up to 2.5 Gbps, and 1.25 Gbps respectively.

"Huawei super-large capacity GPON solution provides abundant bandwidth which not only help operators address the requirements of existing services such as IPTV and Triple Play, but more importantly guarantees an evolution towards future high bandwidth services." said Li Jian, Vice President of Huawei Access Network Product Line.
