UK cable operator selects Keymile's next-generation access platforms

HANOVER, GERMANY -- KEYMILE, a leading manufacturer and supplier ofNext Generation Access Systems has been selected by ntl:Telewest as their preferred vendor for Next Generation Access Platforms.ntl: Telewest is the UK's largest cable operator and a leading UK providerof broadband and communications services.
The KEYMILE MileGate 2500 will initially be used to allow for seamlesstransition of existing street cabinet based Voice and Data services to NextGeneration packet based services over copper and fibre.
KEYMILE has been selected following a detailed competitive tender processwhich considered all aspects of Next Generation Access requirementsincluding evolution to VoIP, Ethernet service delivery, and how to exploitthe close proximity of the access nodes to customer premises using Broadbandtechnologies.
The initial phase of deployment will involve a trial roll-out in threeregions with KEYMILE engineering teams working closely withntl: Telewest to ensure a successful start to the project.
