SHENZHEN, China -- Huawei, a global leading information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, recently announced the industry's highest density 16-port GPON line card today. The new card doubles the number of PON ports supported by Huawei's optical line terminal (OLT) products from 128 to 256, reduces the number of required OLTs which in turn significantly reduces the required floor space in the equipment room, and cuts power consumption by 30% per port. These benefits mean that carriers can offset the footprint of their OLT equipment rooms by deploying equipment that uses less power, meeting carriers' demands for future deployment of FTTx networks.

The 16-port GPON line card is part of Huawei's SingleFAN solution and applies to such products as the Huawei MA5600T, MA5603T, and MA5608T. The card features higher density and lower power consumption, and supports chip-based Type B 20 ms fast protection switchover, real-time rogue ONT detection and isolation, and high-precision clock synchronization technologies such as 1588v2, 1588 ACR, and synchronous Ethernet. The board can be used to build a highly stable and reliable network that simultaneously addresses the service demands of home users, enterprise users, Wi-Fi, and mobile backhaul. The card has been field tested in the UK, Belgium, and the UAE among other locations. The results show that the card has high stability and good quality, and is qualified for large-scale commercial deployment.
