Vyyo's New Name & Game

5:10 PM -- WASHINGTON -- The Cable Show -- Stick a fork, er, javelin in the company that used to be known as Vyyo Inc.

Roughly four months after Vyyo founder Davidi Gilo took back the company in a deal valued at $45 million, the company has changed its name to Javelin Innovations, according to Multichannel News. (See Exclusive: Gilo Offers $45M for Vyyo and Investment Group Extends Vyyo Tender .)

Wayne Davis, the former chief of Vyyo and still head of the new firm, hinted recently that the new company was gearing up to unwrap a "very cool name" and a new product strategy. (See 'New' Vyyo to Rise in March .)

We'll let you weigh in on the coolness-factor, but the new product line will reportedly focus on expanding cable's relatively feeble upstream by tapping into spectrum above the 1 GHz ceiling. That approach could prove handy when MSOs eventually start to deploy Docsis 3.0 with bonded upstream channels. (See Looking Beyond Docsis 3.0.)
