RFOG Update

ORLANDO, Fla. -- We've received confirmation from our insiders that a group of cable industry engineers met here at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo Wednesday to get the ball rolling on a standards effort tied to cable operator implementations of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) for greenfields.

Although there's no official label for the effort yet, a name that's still in the running (either officially or as an internally used tagline) appears to be RF-Over-Glass, or "RFOG." (See RF-Over-Glass on Deck? )

A source familiar with the project also confirmed that Paul Brooks, a high-level engineer at Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) and a champion of MSOs' switched digital video (SDV) strategy, is among those heading up the RFOG effort.

Over and out.
