Raynman IPO

5:30 PM -- It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the first ever edition of Raynman. (Rainman was a popular move starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. I'm an even more popular telecom journalist whose name is Ray... it's brilliant!)

Anyway, there was a comedian whose name I've forgotten who once quipped that the Beatles were sometimes so high that they even let Ringo sing a few songs. I get the feeling a similar thing might have happened here at Light Reading when I was given a blog.

So what will we accomplish in this space? As you may have caught on to by now, I cover all of the major service providers here in North America and all their offerings -- from consumer voice, data, and video services, to enterprise-level managed services, security, VOIP, and other acronyms. For the most part, we'll touch upon all of those things here as well, with hopefully a little more fun and humor.

So the next time Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) announces it's passed another 14,000 trailer parks in Central Florida with FiOS, or Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) decides to start re-selling Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG) to its fixed-line customers, Raynman might have something to weigh in with.

We'll touch upon other things as well within the industry and maybe sometimes outside the industry. Expect a few angry posts on Monday mornings once the football season starts.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I expect to enjoy writing it.

re: Raynman IPO Raynman... What a fantastic name for a blog. Whoever came up with that must be equally fantastic.

re: Raynman IPO Yes, welcome indeed.

You are a brave man to take on the cesspool of recombinant genes that makes up the service provider space these days.

Even more brave is to do it whilst in the company of a menagerie of truculent mammalian types. We are looking for someone to rise above the primordial ooze and start walking upright.

Are you the one? Don't answer that!

Time will tell.
