OAKLAND, Calif. -- Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global leader in FTTx network access solutions, today announced that it is working with Cherokee Communications, the leading telecommunications provider in Southeast Oklahoma, to advance the service provider’s network and support delivery of affordable triple-play services to residential and business subscribers.

Cherokee Communications’ growing customer base demanded an upgrade of its network. To address the need for connectivity, turning to Zhone was the intuitive next step. The Zhone MXK™ platform boasts unmatched flexibility and scalability; its ability to provide Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and VDSL2 connectivity in facilitating network and service upgrades has been repeatedly demonstrated in similar projects throughout North America.

The full-featured MXK enables Cherokee Communications to combine data, video and voice in one platform over a pure packet access network. With the integration of VDSL2 interfaces, which support bandwidth speeds up to 100Mbps, Cherokee Communications’ customers will have access to wire-speed gigabit connectivity. The derived POTS lines will also enable the service provider to take advantage of a low-cost packet network and still provide subscribers with traditional POTS service.
