SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Occam Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCNW - News), announced today that three telecommunications service providers have chosen Occam’s BLC 6000 platform because of its flexibility in mixed copper and fiber access networks. Brooke Telecom (Inwood, Ontario), Hill Country Telephone Cooperative (Ingram, Texas) and Warwick Valley Telephone (Warwick, New York) will deploy a combination of POTS, DSL and Gigabit Ethernet equipment during their transition to an FTTP architecture. Details on each deployment are as follows:

• Brooke Telecom currently maintains a mixed copper/fiber network and plans to transition to all-fiber-only over the next 5-7 years. Brooke recently introduced IPTV to its service mix, which also includes local and long distance voice services, high speed Internet, wireless and business VPNs. The installation includes Occam’s POTS, ADSL2Plus, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet Aggregation blades, as well as their optical network terminals (ONTs) and high-density chassis. “Occam products enable us to upgrade our network incrementally, helping to balance deployment CapEx costs with revenue from new services we are able to earn,” said Manny Baron, Brooke Telecom’s General Manager.

• Hill Country currently deploys a variety of Occam blades and ONTs, and selected the company again as they continue their FTTH upgrade. Using Occam’s GigE FTTP OLTs and ONTs, Hill Country will transition to an all-IP-over-Ethernet based network as part of an aggressive modernization strategy. When complete, the company will offer IPTV, VoIP and video , complementing its existing POTS and DSL services. Hill Country has also installed a 10 Gigabit Ethernet transport network connecting all of its Central Offices and is shortening loop lengths on its remaining copper network, enabling the company to offer new revenue generating services to approximately 80 percent of its subscribers.

• Warwick Valley Telephone is upgrading its copper network with Occam’s POTS and ADSL2Plus blades to meet subscriber demand for IPTV and Triple Play services in high definition. Warwick Valley Telephone management noted Occam’s equipment enabled them to offer HD services to several places to which they didn’t think there would be adequate bandwidth. “Occam provides us a pure packet platform with critical flexibility by supporting both FTTP and copper infrastructures with integrated transport from the same chassis and a common management system that is simple to use,” notes Frank Cassanite, Outside Plant Manager, Warwick Valley Telephone.

• Each of these service providers had previously deployed access solutions from other equipment vendors and conducted thorough reviews of different suppliers prior to selecting Occam Networks.

• “During our selection process, we were looking for a supplier that would help us aggressively position ourselves to deliver high-bandwidth services and assist us in our transition to an FTTH-based architecture,” said Alan Link, Hill Country Plant Manager. “The design and reliability of Occam’s access solutions provided both the flexibility we needed as well as a smooth migration path away from another equipment provider’s products.”

• “The transition to FTTP is simplified with Occam’s integration of 10 Gigabit Ethernet transport and a highly intelligent MSAP architecture that eliminates forklift upgrades when migrating from POTS and DSL,” said Juan Vela, Director, Solutions Marketing and Strategy. “Occam Networks’ access equipment provides the flexibility and cost effectiveness to meet subscribers’ needs today as well as the performance to meet high-bandwidth and low latency needs in the future.”
