Keymile Wins Utility Broadband Deal

HANOVER, Germany -- Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim is investing in the future and creating a cutting-edge optical fibre network. It will deliver download speeds of 250 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. KEYMILE's MileGate, the IP-based multi-service access platform, lies at the core of this ultra-fast broadband network.

Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim is offering optical fibre to the home, making it one of the pioneers in the German state of Hesse. The programme started after an unanimous resolution taken by the town council in December 2012 to appoint the utility to lay and operate an optical fibre network in Rüsselsheim. The first milestone was reached at the end of 2013 already. When selecting the technological framework for connecting optical fibre to homes and industrial buildings, utility managers chose KEYMILE's IP-based multi-service access platform MileGate. Flexibility, compact design and a high level of reliability are some of the MileGate platform’s key characteristics.

The utility uses the mini IP-DSLAM MileGate 2011 as an access node for buildings with up to 24 homes. With its compact body, MileGate 2011 has been designed for basements or plant rooms in multi-apartment buildings. MileGate 2011 terminates the optical fibre in the building and transforms the signals the fibre has transmitted into electrical ones. MileGate 2011 can also receive an analogue and digital cable TV signal fed in via optical fibre and transmit it into the building's existing coaxial cables. As a result, network operators like Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim can offer traditional cable television and modern IPTV services at the same time.
