KDDI Wants NTT to Do the Splits

5:20 PM -- Tadashi Onodera, President of Japan's KDDI Corp. , has told Japanese business daily newspaper The Nikkei that NTT Communications Corp. (NYSE: NTT)'s fixed unit should be split into two divisions -– facilities and services.

This, he believes, is the only way to ensure that circuit leasing prices can be set fairly.

Onodera is upping the pressure on NTT in advance of formal discussions about the incumbent's future structure that are due to begin next year.

He also took a swipe at Japan's Telecom Ministry, suggesting that the country's fiber optic policies should be revamped as NTT is no longer the only company rolling out fiber.
