Have You Heard About the Fiber?

12:30 PM -- Over the summer, I shared for those of you living outside of Verizon's footprint the hilarious silliness that is Sir Charge. (See Sir Charge!.) Sir Charge was the over-the-top ad campaign by Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE: TWC) that aimed to lure phone customers away from Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) to sign up for the cable MSO's own VOIP service.

I had wanted to follow that posting up with another silly ad that I had come to enjoy, but alas could not find the clip anywhere online. But I discovered today that the folks over at Broadband Reports have unearthed it. This clip is a cheap shot from Time Warner that pokes fun at Verizon's rather agressive marketing strategies with FiOS. If you live here in the Northeastern U.S., you've probably seen this. If not, here's the mudslinging you've been missing:

I like how the "Time Warner guy" points out that they've been using fiber optics for over a decade. Well hasn't everyone been using fiber in their long-haul networks for quite some time now? I thought the whole idea behind FiOS was that it pulled it that last mile to the customer's home. Last I checked, Time Warner isn't doing that. But it's a funny commercial. Either that or I'm easily amused.
