Fiber to the Hairpiece
The Trump deals represent what Verizon is attempting all across Manhattan and the rest of New York City -- negotiating deals to install FiOS in MDUs building by building. (See Fiber-to-the-MDU: Verizon's Manhattan Project.) It's a long but necessary process in delivering its signature service to the most densely populated areas of its footprint.
New York City currently only gets FiOS Internet as Verizon has not yet secured a video franchise in any of the five boroughs. (It needs a separate one for each.) Securing a franchise in the city is even more of a lengthy process than it is in other New York communities, but Verizon has hinted that it might be close to announcing the availability of FiOS TV in the big city.
