Enck Joins Lynch Mob

7:00 AM -- James Enck, one of the best known and highly regarded financial analysts covering the telecom sector in Europe, has joined Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. , EuroBlog has learned.

Enck joins from Daiwa Securities SMBC Europe Ltd. , where he enjoyed enough freedom to set up and regularly post to his Eurotelcoblog, though that blog will now no longer be updated.

He's especially well known in the VOIP, emerging services (such as video over IP and Web 2.0), and FTTH communities, and has been an outspoken advocate of municipal fiber builds, which Enck believes will have a major impact on macro as well as communications sector economics. Enck is also known for his candid views on Europe's incumbent telcos. (See Analyst: 'Investors Hate Euro Telecom'.)

It seems unlikely he'll have as high a public profile in his new role, though, which is a shame -- his mischievous teasing of incumbents and inclusion of pop culture references in his presentations always livened up conferences.
